What is a Prosthodontist?
A prosthodontist is a dentist who has completed dental school plus at least three additional years of advanced training and education in a CODA-accredited prosthodontic graduate program. They specialize in treating and handling dental and facial problems that involve restoring missing tooth and jaw structures. A prosthodontist is highly trained in cosmetics, dental implants, crowns, bridges, dentures, temporomandibular disorders (TMJ/TMD), and more.
Why should I see a board-certified Prosthodontist?
After having completed the three-year residency program, prosthodontists have the option of applying for board certification. The process of becoming board certified is rigorous and can take years.
LESS THAN ½ OF ONE PERCENT OF DENTISTS ARE BOARD-CERTIFIED PROSTHODONTISTS
The candidate is required to demonstrate the highest integration of clinical and didactic knowledge through four separate written and oral exams administered by the American Board of Prosthodontics. After becoming certified, Diplomats are required to renew their certification every eight years to ensure they remain current on the newest updates to the specialty and the field of dentistry.
